FAQ's - SMS TEXT ALERTS

1. What does SMS stand for?
SMS is the abbreviation for Short Message Service and is a primary method of communication to mobile or cell phone devices. An SMS message is also know as a text message.

2. Why do I need to reply to the initial message to confirm the service?
We are following industry standard guidelines when we ask you to reply from your cell phone to confirm your service. If you do not confirm your service, you will not receive any alerts or messages.

3. Is there a limit to how long an SMS message can be?
Yes, SMS message can be no longer than 160 characters (this includes punctuation and spaces) for US market and 135 characters for Canadian Market.

4. How much will this cost? Will this increase the monthly charges from my wireless carrier?
CTM Media does not charge a fee for this service but your carrier will charge you standard messaging rates for sending or receiving messages if you do not have a text messaging plan or you go over your ceiling of your current text messaging plan. Standard messaging rates and text plans vary by carrier.

5. How do I know if this service will work on my mobile device?
95% percent of phones available today are capable of sending and receiving text messages. The service is supported by the following carriers: Sprint, AT&T, T-MOBILE, Verizon Wireless, Nextel, Boost, Alltel, Virgin Mobile, US Cellular, and Cellular One.

6. Will I still receive text messages if my phone is turned off?
This varies on a carrier by carrier basis but usually your carrier will attempt to deliver the message when your phone is powered on and you are in a coverage area.

7. How long can I store the text message on my phone?
This varies by device, but for most devices, the text message is stored on the phone until it is deleted or your memory limit is reached.

8. Is there a limit to the number of times I can view the text message?
No, you can view the text message as many times as you wish or until you delete it off your phone.

9. If I port my mobile number to another carrier, will my CIP alert service transfer as well?
No, you will need to re-register for the service.

10. How do I opt out of or Stop this text alert service?
To stop the service, from your mobile phone text STOP to 71297. All requests are processed in 12 hours and you will not receive any more messages unless you re-subscribe.

11. How do I reply to a text message?
To reply directly to a text message, open the text message on your device and select reply-which is usually found in your messaging directory or options menu. Type your reply in 160 characters or less and hit send. Standard messaging rates apply.

1. How do I know if the application will work on my mobile device?

2. Will loading and using this app increase monthly charges from my carrier?
Not if you have an unlimited data plan. There could be additional charges if you have a limited data plan that is exceeded by the applications requirements. Other than data charges the application is free to use.

3. Where do I find the application on my mobile device once I have completed the download?
The application can either be found in the content, applications, games, or downloads folder depending on the phone. Sometimes the applications icon can be found on your phones desktop. In addition some phones allow you to choose where you would like to save the app.

4. What happens if I am in the application and I receive a voice call or SMS message?
If a user is in the application, voice calls may be sent directly to voicemail, SMS messages receipt may be delayed until the application is closed out, phone dependent.

5. How does the application affect battery life and device memory?
While running the application does not consume more battery life than other features, it should be closed when not in use to avoid battery drainage. Depending on the memory capability of your phone the application may use a lot of memory.

6. How will I know if there is new content available in the application?
Content is automatically refreshed in the application each time you exit and enter. Some sections of the application may also refresh while they are open.

7. Will I receive messages or offers when the application is closed?
No, you can only receive messages or offers when the application is open.
